Cuisine American
- 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
- 1 teaspoon blue spirulina powder or 2 butterfly pea flower tea bags
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 cups apple or white grape juice
- 2 cups cold water or sparkling water
- 1 –2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup optional, to taste
- Ice cubes for serving
- Lemon slices and fresh raspberries for garnish (optional)
Prepare the blue base:
If using butterfly pea flowers, steep tea bags in 1 cup hot water for 5–10 minutes. Remove tea bags and let cool completely.
If using blue spirulina powder, mix it into 1 cup cold water until fully dissolved.
Puree raspberries:
In a blender, puree raspberries with 1/2 cup apple or white grape juice until smooth.
Strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove seeds and set aside.
Combine ingredients:
In a large pitcher, mix raspberry puree, prepared blue liquid, lemon juice, remaining apple or grape juice, and remaining cold water or sparkling water. Stir well to combine.
Chill and serve:
Refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes or until chilled.
Serve over ice cubes, garnished with lemon slices and fresh raspberries.
Blue Spirulina Alternatives:
If you don’t have blue spirulina, butterfly pea flower tea is a great natural alternative for color. You can find it online or in health stores.
Sweetness Level:
Adjust sweetness to your preference. You may skip sweeteners altogether if you prefer a less sweet beverage.
Variations:
For a fizzy version, use sparkling water. You can also blend with ice for a slushy texture.
